​There are approximately 400 property owners who enjoy a great retreat with 24 hour security gate, private beach, marina store (summer months), 24 hour credit card gas at marina, clubhouse, and social events.  We are about 2 miles from Elk Creek Winery and Sporting Clays.  and 1.5 hr from Cincinnati, Lexington and Louisville.

Elk Lake and the surrounding area was developed in 1960 by American Realty Company, drawing upon its experience in similar lakefront developments in rural areas.
​  Eight farms comprising 1,100 acres were purchased, and Elk Creek was dammed to produce a body of water of approximately 255 acres with 14 miles of shoreline.  Elk Lake Shores has 1,300 lots that are serviced by 17 miles of gravel road.  In 1961, the non-profit Elk Lake Property Owners' Association, Inc. (ELPOA) was established to govern the overall operations of the lake and its surrounding common properties.  The official name of the development as recorded in its Articles of Incorporation is Elk Lake Shores.

   Located in north central Kentucky this area abounds in wildlife, deer, turkey, ducks, geese, fox, beaver, otter and eagles frequent the lake along with many other birds. Deer Lake (old reservoir)  located at the west end  of Elk Lake is 17 acres, no swimming and only paddle or electric boats allowed.  Its a great place for bass and crappie fishing.​
